Vintage Mid 70s Ludwig Big Beat Five Piece Drum Set Kit Drumset Plus Hardware

For sale: This is a vintage mid 1970’s Ludwig five piece “Big Beat Outfit” (model 989) in the rare and hard to find “walnut” cortex finish complete with original stands, pedals and throne.
The kit includes a 22” bass drum, 12” and 13” rack toms, a 16” floor tom, and a 5”x14” Supra-phonic snare.
All original Ludwig heavy duty tubular “Atlas” hardware is part of the package consisting of: (1) snare stand, (1) hi-hat stand, (1) straight cymbal stand, (1) boom cymbal stand, (1) throne, (1) “Speed King” bass drum pedal and of course all spurs, mounts and legs.
This kit has been stripped down to its shells, all parts (including stands and pedals) have been cleaned, polished, inspected, oiled, painted (if needed) and reassembled.
The drums have all been fitted with brand new heads. Ludwig “silver dot” batter heads on all toms and bass drum paired with Remo clear Ambassadors on each resonance side. A Ludwig coated “Weather Master” is on the snare’s batter side and a clear “snare side” on its resonance side. The snare also comes with a brand new set of Ludwig 20 strand “Snappy” snare wires.
I’m dating these drums from their serial numbers, putting them probably around 1975 when shell construction was still of 3 ply (maple/mahogany/maple) with reinforcement rings and interiors were painted with the speckled granitone or “Lud-Cote”. That said, all shells, bearing edges and interiors are in good solid original condition.
The exterior “walnut” cortex wrap overall is in very good condition. No seam separation or lifting. However there are light scuffs and scratches; the worst being on the bass drum (tom rash) which has been buffed out to be less obvious.
All hardware and stands are complete, original and function properly as they should but also do show wear, scuffs, scratches etc. from age.
All internal mufflers/ tone controls are present, operate properly and smoothly. The snare drum’s strainer/throw-off works perfectly as it should.
I would rate the drums overall condition a good 7.5 to 8 out of 10.
This kit sounds as good as it looks and is ready to play!
