What is Key Holing on a cymbal you may ask? As you use your cymbals, with no insulator the cymbal will get damaged by key-holing - the friction relatively soft brass against the relatively hard steel of the cymbal post wares a "notch" in the cymbal. This is more than just ugly; the cymbal will settle into that notch and will no longer spin, causing it to be struck again and again in the exact same place, reducing the life-span of the cymbal.

A Keyhole happens in a cymbal when the cymbal stand does not have proper protector on the metal wing nut Post. The cymbal rubs against the cymbal post and over time starts to cut a channel into the cymbal. It looks very similar to a house key. Once this happens to a cymbal, there is nothing you can really do to fix it. The best thing is to prevent it from happening by using our built in ABS Insulator Sleeve that comes on each Cymbal Dice.
