Falcon Motor Group proudly brings to market this extraordinary 1965 Austin Healey 3000 MkIII BJ8, coming out of long-term collector ownership.
The Austin-Healey 3000 Mk III BJ8 is considered to be the finest, most powerful and most luxurious of the ''Big Healeys'' produced from 1959-1967. According to the selling dealer and the provided photographs, this 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 Mk III BJ8 2+2 convertible appears to be an outstanding example from the final year, benefitting from ongoing mechanical and comfort updates made throughout the 3000's production run. The seller describes this particular convertible as restored from an ''original rust-free and accident-free'' car, and notes that the car still presents in ''show-quality and great daily-driving condition'' with its 2.9-liter inline six-cylinder engine, four-speed manual transmission with electric overdrive in all gears, and comfortable interior.
The first Healey 100 was built as a single example of a simple two-seat open roadster utilizing Austin A90 running gear, introduced by Donald Healey at the 1952 London Motor Show at Earls Court to gauge interest. The car became the sensation of the show with its sleek, flowing styling and sturdy four-cylinder engine. With its clear potential for production, Austin's Managing Director Leonard Lord proposed that the car become the Austin-Healy 100 (promoting its potential top speed). Over time the Big Healeys evolved from a basic open sports car to a luxurious sports touring car with the Mk III.
When the Austin-Healey 100/4 came out in 1953 it was a sensation. Beautiful, quick and capable of 100 miles per hour, it was also moderately priced and built up from components courtesy of the parts bin of the newly-formed British Motor Corporation. Ten years later, the Big Healey on offer was the 3000 Mk III. In the intervening decade, the Healey had grown up. It now used a big 3-liter straight six, seated four—in a pinch—and featured a wood dash, roll-up windows and other more upscale appointments. Many people consider the final iteration of the marque, the BJ8, to be the best of them all, and the car on offer is from the last year of production. That big 2,912cc pushrod six put out 148 bhp and drove the rear wheels through a four-speed transmission with overdrive.
Chassis #HBJ8L31007 was built between Feb 24-March 3, 1965 and was delivered in Healey Blue with Blue Vinyl to it's original owner in New York on March 29, 1965.
In recent years, this lovely example has benefitted from full rotisserie 'nut and bolt' restoration. During this restoration, the decision was made to perform color change to Red (as shown). To compliment the gorgeous red exterior, the owner opted to upgrade materials for a higher level of restoration. The Seats were re-upholstered, using Connolly Leather in Saddle (original was vinyl) and a mohair top, creating a higher level, better example than most you will see.
Though it has been a few years since restoration, this fin example has been garage kept and sparingly used for the occasional early morning drive. Coming out of collection status this lovely Healey has been well-cared for and drives proper and with ease. A true collector car to be enjoyed over many happy miles by the next caretaker. Falcon Motor Group – 407-554-5170, by appointment.
